INFORMATION FROM PAT SPRATT GDA

  • Aug 31,2015

3276 kids have taken part in the Cul Camps in the North region in the last few weeks at 29 different venues through the region. Well done to all the Clubs, Co-ordinators, Coaches and helpers who made these camps a huge success in our region! I have been doing workshops on Fun Games in each of these clubs over the summer in preparation for the camps. I also attended every camp to witness the great work being done by all clubs.

We also ran a Lenova Skills Hub in Mallow GAA for players aged between 13 and 16. This was also a very successful camp with coaches, Ruari Deane, Doireen O Sullivan, Orla Cotter and Cormac Murphy coaching at these camps.

Anybody looking for pictures of these camps please go onto Cork Coaching and Games Twitter account as linked below and put in your club name.

U13 Development: Over the summer I have been getting together a squad for both hurling and football for these 2002 players. We have 146 hurlers and 152 Footballers registered at present with the GDA in the North Region alone. We have 6 hurling and 6 football sessions done with 6 matches played with both codes. Players are now starting back to school so we will be taking a short break for a while and in a few weeks our hurlers will be playing Dublin. Our winter training academy will be announced in early October where we will be cutting these panels down to 50 players in both hurling and football at this age.

In the next few weeks I will be going to all secondary schools running Transition Year courses in Coach Education, Foundation courses and Referee courses. Out of this I want each student to go back into their club to work a minimum of 5 hours with their clubs Nursery Programme. They will also be running internal leagues in their school for first year students in both hurling and football. They will also be going into their own clubs local school to coach hurling and football. They will be refereeing in the internal blitz in their school and also in the Monster Blitz's throughout the year. Once they have completed these courses I will be sending the coaching officer in your club the numbers of the students.

Coach Education: I will be running Foundation and Award One courses and Workshops over the next few months in the region. Any club wishing to do their own course must contact me the GDA about this. We will also run central courses in both Avondhu and Duhallow divisions in the near future.
