Award 1 Adult Course

This summer we will be running an Award 1 Adult Course in Cork.

Next year the following stipulations have been passed by Árd Chomhairle:

Mandatory Coaching Standards
It was noted that Árd Chomhairle has approved the following standards for Inter-County and Club teams:
Inter County Management Teams

  • By the start of the 2016 season, all Inter-County Management teams will contain an Award 2 coach. This person would ideally be the head coach. Applications for a derogation can be made to the National Games Development Committee where deemed to be in the best developmental interests of the relevant team.
  • By the start of the 2018 season, all Inter-County Head Coaches will be Award 2 qualified.

Club Management Teams

  • By the start of the 2016 season, all Club Management teams will contain an Award 1 coach. This person would ideally be the head coach.
  •  By the start of the 2018 season, all Club Head Coaches will be Award 1 qualified.

Refresher Day

As there will be a large demand come the winter months and in an effort to stay ahead of the curve, we will run an Award 1 course, specifically for coaches of Adult teams this summer. We have lined up some expert tutors, who will cover the Award 1 syllabus as well as their own areas of expertise, to give a further insight into Coaching adults and adult teams.

Venues and tutors TBC will be sent on to participants asap.

Tutor Biography:

Paul O’Brien: Games Promotion Officer with St Brigids in Dublin, as well as a player with Crumlin. He has worked as a tutor and GPO for 8 year in Dublin. He is also the Games Development Officer for Hurling in DCU GAA Academy. He brings a wealth of experience having managed the DCU Fitzgibbon cup team as well as act as Coach for the Dublin minor Hurlers this year. Paul is in the process of receiving his Master in Sports Psychology from UUJ.

Stephen Behan: Games Promotion Officer with Clontarf GAA in Dublin, as well as a player with Na Fianna. Stephen has been working Full time as a GPO in Dublin for 7 years. He has managed DCU Hurling and Camogie teams in the past and still commits a large amount of his time to playing. Stephens best work can be seen on the http://clontarfgaa.com/Coaching where he has led the charge for the last 4 years. Stephen is currently in the final stages of a Coaching and Exercise Science Masters in UCD.

Kevin O’Donovan: Kevin is the current Coaching Officer for Cork GAA. Kevin spent the last number of years working for the Cork GAA on a full term basis as GDA for Carbery/Beara division. Kevin is a playing member of Kilmeen/Kilbree. Kevin is also the current coordinator of the Rebel Og Academy program.

William Frawley: Willie is a member of Fermoy GAA club and has vast experience in the areas of Physical Conditioning and fitness. Willie is a current coach for the Cork U16 Hurlers having been involved in the Rebel Og academy for the past few seasons. Willies workshops have had excellent reviews in the past and we are delighted to have him available for this.

 

Cost of the course is €50 per person. Participants will be required to make all the sessions, but if one is missed, they will be able to make it up at the Refresher session at the end. The content will be delivered through both codes, but specialisation in one code, to accompany a very small bit course work will have to be completed at the end to gain full accreditation.
