TO BE RELEVANT TO THE AGM
1. AVONDHU SENIOR FOOTBALLERS
The Avondhu Senior Football Team had a very successful 2011. Under the Management Team Of Daithi Peirce (Glanworth), Mitchel O Leary (Mallow), Eddie O Connor (Kildorrery), Paudie Curtain (Clyda Rovers) and Eugene Casey (Ballyclough). The Footballers started their Campaign in Dunmanway on the 14/3/11 with a win over Beara on a score line of 2 13 To 0 08. From here it was back to Mallow on the 24/3/11 and a Meeting with Seandun despite the loss of Star Forward Colm O Neil with a serious knee injury which would rule him out for the rest of the year. Avondhu overcame Seandun and Qualified to meet C I T In The Qualifier To Enter The County Championship Proper. This Game was played in Fermoy on 18/4/11 and it took extra time to get a result after an hour and half of Football. Avondhu were victorious. This Victory saw Avondhu Senior Footballers go into the 4th Round Draw of the Cork County Senior Football Championship where they were drawn against Aghada. This Game was played in Castlelyons on 7/8/11 in a titanic struggle the game ended in a Draw 10 Points Each.
The Replay was again played in Castlelyons on 26/8/11 and after a very tight 60 minutes the game finished level and went to extra time where Avondhu came out on top on a Score Line of 1 16 To 1 06. This Victory set up a mouth watering tie in the Quarter Final for Avondhu with a match against County Football Kingpins Nemo Rangers. This Game Took Place in Fermoy on 3/9/11 and a massive upset was caused when Avondhu made short work of the mighty Nemo by beating them on a score line of 1 08 to 0 07. They had now qualified for the Semi Final of the County Championship. Their Opponents were the students from UCC this Game was played in Pairc Ui Rinn on 24/9/11. Confidence was high in the Camp of reaching a County Final for the first time since 1961 but the Students proved to be too strong on the night and won out on a score line of 0 08 to 0 12. This was a disappointing outcome at the end of a terrific year for our footballers. In a year when we honour the Team Of 1961 who won the County Senior Football Championship it was fitting to see the Avondhu Senior Football Team Of 2011 compete so well in this Years Championship playing 7 Games and going to 2 terms of extra time. I would like to thank the Management Team who put in a tremendous amount of work with this Team and left no stone unturned to get success. I would also like to thank the players who made themselves available to the Avondhu Team in 2011. Hopefully the Division can go on from this in 2012 and capture the Senior Football Championship.
AVONDHU SENIOR HURLERS
The Avondhu Senior Hurlers 2011 Under the Management of Johnny Keane (Liscarroll), Pat Fenton (Kildorrery) And Trevor Cooney (Fermoy) competed in a Round Robin Style Competition with Duhallow Muskerry and Imokilly making up the other teams in our Group. Avondhu’s Campaign started in Mallow on 19/4/11 against Duhallow and Avondhu came out on Top on a Score Line Of 1 14 To 0 08. This was a good start and next up were Muskerry again in Mallow on 25/4/11. This Game was very tight all through and Avondhu led going into injury time but a Goal from Muskerry ensured the Game would end in a Draw. If Avondhu had held on for a Victory, we would be in a strong position to qualify to play 1 of the Colleges. The Draw meant qualification went down to the last game when Avondhu Met Imokilly in Rathcormac on 3/5/11. The Winner of this Game would progress to meet the Colleges. After performing well, Avondhu came out at the wrong side of the score line and Imokilly advanced. This was a disappointing end to the Season but with a bit more work in 2012 the Avondhu Senior Hurlers could be a force to be reckoned with. I would like to thank the Management Team and the Players who showed Great Pride in The Avondhu jersey.
Hopefully More Players Can Make Themselves Available To The Senior Hurling Team For 2012. Finally I Would Like To Wish Dessie Fitzgerald(Charleville) All The Best In His Recovery From A Serious Injury. He Picked Up Playing With His Club In 2011.Dessie Has Worn The Avondhu Jersey With Great Pride And Performed At Full Back For The 2011 Avondhu Senior Hurling Team.

TOTAL.
At the time of writing the 255 game have been played this year under the jurisdiction of the Avondhu Board compared to 350 games in 2010 . The decrease in games can be attributed to the Minor grade the junior b (1)football competition and the division 1 Hurling League all leaving the Boards jurisdiction. The breakdown of games can be seen above along with walkovers comparing 2010 with 2011. It is satifying to see that the number of walkover is on the decrease from 2010.
I would like to thank Barry Aherne our PRO and his league committee for running our Leagues with great efficiency in the past year.
6. AVONDHU/IMOKILLY LEAGUE.
This was a historic venture for both Divisions. Set up in accordance with the new County Strategic plain both Divisions bought in to the Format of 18 Division 1 Hurling Teams from both Divisions 9 from each split in to 2 groups of 9. The Committee set up to run this new League consisted of 3 members of the Avondhu Board and 3 members of the Imokilly Board. In total 75 games were played in the league between 21st of March and the 31st July no walkovers were given and only 1 player was suspended trough the entire competition. The winners of the League were Sarsfields of Imokilly and they are now qualified for the Cavanaghs Draw and are also competing in the County League.
I want to thank everyone who helped to run this League especially the Clubs for there cooperation. The Imokilly Secretary and Board Members who attended meetings in Fermoy to arrange Fixtures and to the Avondhu Board Chairman and PRO who really worked hard to ensure this League would be successful. Hopefully this League can go from strength to strength in the coming years.

This year saw the Avondhu Junior Board take over the running of the Development squads at U14 U15 and U16 both Hurling and Football. John Geaney(Development officer) Kevin O Callaghan and Paudie Kissane Paddy Ryan and Tom Fox were entrusted with getting selectors for the various squads. I would like to thank the three lads for doing a fantastic job in getting the right people to be in charge of the various teams.
The U14 footballers have played two matches in the inter divisional competition so far losing both to Muskerry and Imokilly respectively. Unfortunately the 2nd phase of this competition does not take place until Jan 2012.
The U15 football blitz is due to take place in Jan 2012, while the U16 football blitz is due to take place on Sat 3/12/11 in Mallow.
The U14 hurlers played the first phase of their competition in Belgooly and they had wins over Carrigdhoun and Imokilly B. These victories qualified them for the right to play in the Stephen Nolan Cup which was played in CIT on Monday 31/10/11.They emerged victories over Imokilly A on a score line of 2 07 to 1 09 and a win over Seandun by 2 09 to 2 06 saw them capture this prodigious prize.
Congratulations to all involved including the selectors Jonathan Linehan (Mill Rovers), Michael Copps(Ballyhea), Mossie Fitzgibbion(Charleville)
The U15 hurlers competed in the Dick Barrett Shield competition where they beat Seandun but were beaten by Imokilly by a point in a winner takes all clash.
The U16 hurlers took part in the Munster competition where they took on Limerick City /Limerick West, Mid Clare, and West Tipperary, Unfortunately they were beaten in 2 matches and drew 1 and didn’t qualify for the semi finals, injuries and 1 player being called up to the Cork Minor panel did not help our cause. A lot of work had been put in to this team by the Management.
