
Cups of Avondhu GAA
1. Fitgerald Cup – Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Division 1 Football League.
a. A solid silver cup, was displayed before the delegates of the North Cork board at the meeting of the 24th of February 1934 which the chairman, Tom Cavanagh said, was presented by the traders of Fermoy and valued at £25. The trophy was intended for perpetual competition and it had been decided he said, to title it, the Fitzgerald Memorial Cup , in memory of Michael Fitzgerald, a staunch member of the Association, and the Gaelic League who as Commandant of the Irish Republican Army in the struggle against the British, sacrificed his young life, on the 27th October 1920 after 67 days hunger strike.
2. No Name - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Division 2 Football League.
3. Breda Healy Perpetual Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Division 3 Football League.
a. The Breda Healy cup was presented to the Avondhu Board by the Healy family, from Glanworth over 25 years ago. The cup is in memory of Breda (wife of Monty current president of Glanworth Club) who sadly passed away at the young age of 49. Breda was a staunch member of the Glanworth GAA Club. The Healy family recently replaced the original cup with a newer one retiring the original to safe keep in Healy household
4. CTC Div 1 League Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Division 1 Hurling League.
5. No Name - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Division 2 Hurling League.
6. No Name - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Division 3 Hurling League.
7. Carroll Family Cup - Charleville- Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Division 4 Hurling League.
a. Presented by the Carroll family, Charleville, for the first time in 2025, this fine old repurposed cup commemorates XXX
8. No Name - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Junior A Football Championship
9. Michael Curry Perpetual Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Junior B1 Football Championship
a. Presented by the Curry family, Shanballymore to commemorate Micheal Curry, Shanballymore, who tragically died young. The cup was presented in 2002
10. JBFC2 Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Junior B2 Football Championship

11. Sean O Brien Perpetual Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Junior A Hurling Championship
a. Commemorates the sad passing of long serving Avondhu Divisional Secretary Sean O Brien from the Doneraile club, who sadly was taken ill at the Junior Hurling Final of 1968, and sadly passed to his eternal reward.
12. Walsh Engineering - Two Pot House Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu Junior B1 Hurling Championship
a. Walsh Engineering Supplies donated this cup, in support of the local divisional competitions.

18. Capt. Wm F Lomasney Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu U21A Hurling Championship
a. A new piece of silverware was donated to the board in 1967. Mr Sean Lomasney of Kilworth donated a cup in honour of an old IRA / Fenian, Volunteer Capt William Mackey Lomasney and this was for the Under-21 Hurling championship. William Mackey Lomasney (1841 – 13 December 1884) was a member of the Fenian Brotherhood and the Clan na Gael who, during the Fenian dynamite campaign organized by Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa, was killed in a failed attempt to dynamite London Bridge.
19. Jack Morrissey Cup - Presented to the winners of the Avondhu U21B Hurling Championship
a. Jack was one of 5 brothers that played for Newtown, he won his first north cork junior championship in 1939, other championship successes followed in 1940, 1944, 1946, 1951 & 1953. He won his first county junior medal in 1946. In 1953 he was captain of Newtown intermediates that defeated Glen Rovers in the county final in the lowest ever score recorded 5 points to 4 points. After retiring and now living in Dromina, Jack and his family took an active part in the GAA club and played a few years with Dromina before finally hanging up his hurley
